The Ryan Budget Plan

I pay taxes. I receive only the barest minimum of services from the government; fire, police, municipalities, etc., and I do not believe medicare or social security will be there for me when I retire.

That being said, I do not believe that gutting the government will in any way help me personally or the country as a whole. In fact, I think it will hurt me. The wear and tear on my car from broken roads, the danger of traversing the streets on the way to work, and the deterioration of my community and elders, will only make things worse. Any kind of illness will wipe me out. There is no future in the Republican budget plan.

Tax cuts for the Uber Wealthy?
Firing Federal Workers?
Privatizing Medicare?

How does this help the average citizen?

This only helps the absolute wealthiest amongst us. This is what we will get if Mitt Romney is voted into the Presidency. The Republicans are now expanding their war on women onto a new front. We all know they like the two war capability. The Republicans are waging war on Women and the Middle Class. They will crush us if we let them. Please vote.

I live in a blue state...
I don't mind paying my taxes so that the poorest amongst us do not go without basic food and shelter. I get angry that some people abuse the system, but I do not blame everyone receiving assistance for the actions of a few.

It saddens me that it is so hard for people that they need to ask for help. No one wants to live like that. But some people are hurting. Where is the christian spirit in this budget plan. Where is the caring for the poorest and weakest amongst us. What Jesus are the Republicans believing in?

Matthew 25:34-36 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, "Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me."

Is this what Jesus will say to the Republicans?

Mark 10:21-22 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

The Republicans only know how to grieve.

Luke 14:12-14 He said also to the one who had invited him, "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

There is no banquet in the Ryan Plan. I hope Paul Ryan does not go to Hell.

Luke 16:19-25 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man's table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.

In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.' But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.

Yikes! Have the GOP read this lately? What God do they believe in?

Proverbs 21:13 "If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered."

I may even have a little sympathy for the Republicans who use their belief in God as a way to gain political power. He seems to not like that kind of behavior.

Matthew 25:41-45 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'"

Is This the same God that these Republicans are saying they believe in? How will they fare in this world and the next if they disobey their God's will. He apparently does not think too highly of the miserly rich.

  1. Republicans would like to give Christians the power to choose where their money goes instead of handing it off to the government.
Last time I checked, we should be giving out of a cheerful heart (2 Corinthians 9:7), not out of a mandatory government program.
Now, I'm not bashing on taxes. I'm just saying, it's ridiculous to link verses on charity to tax policies.

  2. No. It's not ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is how the Republican elite have all of you guys turning out to vote so that the wealthiest Americans can have a lower tax rate than people who are struggling to get by. How can you possibly feel good about being manipulated like that?

  3. You should study your Bible a little more before you start preaching because your interpretation is a bit off. The verses that you quote do not tell us to give our money to the government to help the poor. It is our responsibility to help the poor but gov't is not even close to the best way of doing so. It is good that you are reading your Bible though!

  4. When they use Jesus to get elected; they can not divorce their ideology from his teachings once they get in office. It's as if they are saying: "Vote for me! I believe in Jesus!" and then when they get into office they ignore what it means to believe in the teachings of Jesus.

I just have to ask: "What Would Jesus Vote For?"

  5. Hey Anonymous 1...the point is that there is so much lack of true Christian spirit/love/heart in today's wealthy that a feeble attempt at a policy change is brought up because that class of people will not do it on their own as a whole for the right reason. There are many that have given their table scraps and they get a write off for it or other selfish motivation. As a whole most have to be told to do it. Jesus laid out that Christianity is not a label or a political party but a true Christian heart is a way of life in which one puts the needs of others in front of their own for no personal gain. (usually the exact opposite). You are correct in that Policy cannot produce real charity but the fact that we have to try via politics is the indicator as to how far removed the blessed in our Nation are from a heart that gives and more fundamentally...sees the big "christian picture."
In no place did i nor the article say one must give. If one is claiming to be Christian however, giving IS the way of life and one should refrain from calling themselves Christian if they do not adhere to this basic principle of the belief system. Perhaps they should call themselves "a Christian work in Progress." The article was simply pointing out that those that self profess to represent Christianity, should check their personal record compared to that which they claim to represent.

  6. Also, What happened to compassion and caring for the weakest amongst us? I pay taxes. But, I do not begrudge the working poor some meager assistance to make their lives not a complete living hell.

I look forward to increasing my earnings and actually having to pay more in taxes. But what does not make sense is that if I make enough money, my taxes will go to a lower percentage? Huh? Where is the sense in that?

I am responsible for myself. I do not over extend my debt. I haven't really saved for retirement like I should have, but I'll correct that in the next few years. But, just because I am fortunate enough to have learned the importance of education and work, I do not think those that are not as educated or fortunate enough to be making a decent wage should have to suffer needlessly.

I am not rich. I may top out at six figures somewhere down the road, but may not even make it to that milestone. However, I do not believe that those people earning poverty wages should be looked upon as less than I. I do believe that if a family of four is making 20-30 thousand dollars a year, they probably need help. When you work forty hours a week and are raising children, it becomes very difficult to go back to school to get better training and education. The cost itself is prohibitive, but the time and energy it takes is herculean.

If those people need help with food and shelter? I hope my tax dollars are available for them. I want my tax dollars to pay for roads, bridges, and schools. I want everyone to have the ability to live the American dream. Not just the top percent. And with the current economic reality; it is becoming more and more expensive to get a degree or training. It is getting harder to own a home. But it is only getting harder for the majority of American workers, not the top 1%.

Don't hate. Help your fellow Americans move up. Do not knock a person down when they are already suffering. You can not take wealth with you when you die. Why not help more people succeed instead of belittling those who are not?
